Garden Devine

 Garden Devine brings my three favourite distractions together – gardening, painting and backyard chickens. I planted a handful of seeds and grew hundreds of gourds in my backyard in Warwick on the Southern Downs. Each gourd, to me, had a personality not unlike my chooks. Some stood proudly confident and others charmingly bashful. Many had lumps and blemishes and that made them even more appealing to create my hand painted chicken characters.

My style is influenced by my training as a painter and ceramist and my exploration of folk art and decorative styles of visual art. Each gourd chicken that I paint reflects my love of home, my pretty cottage garden and life’s simple pleasures.
