Hanson Mineral Designs -Dianne & Derek Antonievich, Toowoomba Qld
Di - My art journey commenced in 2009 with my sister’s geological thin section images and developed into presenting her photographs in resin. Since then I have expanded my resin work to incorporate botanical elements as well as rocks and minerals, and into creating a range of homewares made with resin. My recent work has focussed on embedding dried flowers and leaves in resin and creating functional homewares such as cheese knives and bottle openers. I continue to work with timber and resin and complement my homewares range with timber serving boards, making one-off items using nature’s beautiful elements.
Derek- My art journey with sculpting began in 2012 while visiting Murphys Creek Art Centre, where I was mentored by Geoff & Ginny Ball. Creating art means time away from all things digital, connecting with nature, self and being present while continuing to learn new techniques. My love of natural light, shade, architecture and organic shapes found in everyday living has always inspired me to create. I believe everyone is creative and it’s about discovering a medium that best fits our creative bent. I gravitated to the medium of hebel as it’s texture and lightness suits the shapes I love creating.
