Originally from Istanbul, Türkiye, Melek arrived in Australia in 2008 and built a career in education before rediscovering a passion for sharing the traditional flavours of her homeland. The inspiration for her business came from a simple request from a friend who had fallen in love with baklava while visiting Türkiye. After tasting Melek’s homemade version, both realised they had something special. That moment became the beginning of a new journey.
Since 2017, Melek’s Baklava & More has delighted customers across the Darling Downs with authentic Turkish sweets and savouries, including her much-loved baklava and Turkish delight. Proud of her cultural heritage, Melek is passionate about sharing traditional recipes, flavours and hospitality. As her business continues to grow, she looks forward to expanding into traditional Turkish meals and cooking classes, bringing a taste of Türkiye to even more people.
