Merry's Cake Decorating - Merilyn Higgins, Cunnamulla Qld

As a cake decorator, my passion for this craft began in my early childhood, lending a hand to my mother as she skillfully iced wedding cakes. It all started in 1970, when I bravely entered my first Cunnamulla Show. Back then, the art of cake decorating was a delightful challenge, as there were no readily available commercial icing products. I vividly remember mixing fondant to achieve the perfect consistency without the aid of specialized tools, meticulously shaping and moulding decorations by hand. Fine piping was an essential skill, demanding hours of dedicated practice to master the intricate lace-like effect.
​Selling my cakes successfully from the tender age of 15, I have continuously expanded my expertise to embrace ever-changing trends. Incorporating painting and embroidery techniques into my work has allowed me to develop a distinctive and individual style, transforming cake decorating into a true art form. Above all, the joy of sharing my skills with others has become a source of profound fulfillment.
